We're on the lookout for a Data and GIS Lead to join our Digital Enablement leadership team at New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) on a four-year fixed-term contract. This is a unique opportunity to help lift data maturity across the organisation - bringing both strategic thinking and hands-on know-how.

You'll lead the design, planning, and continuous improvement of our data and GIS functions, making sure they're fit for purpose and aligned with what our people and community need. You'll work closely with teams across the business to understand their drivers, support smarter decision-making, and ensure our data is well-managed, accessible, and trusted. It's a role where you can bring your leadership, technical expertise, and collaborative approach to the table - and help shape how we use data to deliver better outcomes for our district.

Key responsibilities - Ng haepapa matua: Lead strategic and operational planning for the organization's Data management practices, focusing on meeting business needs and requirements through data functions Contribute to the ongoing development of the Data strategy, supporting the goals outlined in the Digital Strategy Promote the use of Data, GIS and BI solutions as a means of capturing, interpreting, analysing and understanding information Manage the day-to-day Data and GIS team service delivery and support Council staff in their use of all Data Champion data literacy and ensure council data and information is managed, accessible, fit for purpose and of good quality Create appropriate strategies, processes and policies to promote and facilitate the integration, quality, and availability of all data for the Enterprise Data solution Ensure Data and GIS Platform technologies are kept up to date. Identify process improvement opportunities for the Data and GIS team and the wider organisation, looking to automate manual processes removing duplication of data and effort Ensure data assets in the organizatio.
